Concrete and Steel Technology, Engineering & Design 2018
The first international conference on Concrete and Steel Technology, Engineering & Design (CASTED 2018) took place over the course of three days, last May 24-26, 2018 at the Marriot hotel in Manila, Philippines. Over 700 members of the Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines from Southeast Asia and the Middle East attended the successful event.

The conference consisted of a series of talks given by eight keynote speakers from various countries, followed by Technical Sessions on specific topics. Dynamis’ Carlos Carames, one of the keynote speakers, gave a presentation about the “Importance of Soil-Structure Interaction (SSI) When Using Performance-Based Design,” while other talks included topics such as “Non-Destructive Testing and Assessment of Concrete” given by Professor Sohichi Hirose from the Tokyo Institute of Technology in Japan, and “Concrete-Steel Composite and Mixed Components For Efficient Structural System” given by Dr. Naveed Anwar of AIT Solutions in Thailand.
Apart from the presentations and technical sessions, numerous companies related with engineering and construction had their respective stands set up so that attendants could have the chance to interact with the representatives and learn about the companies’ offerings.
Project SAM team announced
Finally, on the last day of the conference, a special project was announced concerning the development of probable seismic hazard maps for the entire Philippines. The undertaking has been christened The Project SAM, and Dynamis’ very own Carlos Carames Molero was elected to be one of the advisers guiding the team during the project.
