Last November 22-24, 2018, Dynamis’ Carlos Carames Molero attended the 7thAsian Conference on Earthquake Engineering, organized by the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Engineering Institute of Thailand (EIT) and Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines (ASEP). The conference was first initiated in 2004 by ASEP as a way to provide a forum for professionals and academics in the realm of earthquake engineering. This year’s theme “Seismic Resilience for Safer Cities and Infrastructures” attracted engineers and professionals worldwide, eager to learn about new developments and trends in earthquake engineering.
The conference was attended by over 200 engineers from several countries around the world. It was a great opportunity for engineers to network and attend papers and presentations divided into several themes such as, “Behavior, Testing and Modeling of Structural Components and Systems”, “Performance-based Seismic Design and Evaluation of Structures”, and “Tools and Techniques for Structural Analysis for Earthquakes”. In particular, Carlos of Dynamis presented a paper entitled, “Performance-based Design on the biggest water tanks in the world.” Amongst the papers presented, there were several Keynote Speeches by prominent professionals in the industry.
Amongst the keynote speakers were Mr. Ashraf Habibullah, founder of CSI, who talked about “Structural and Earthquake Engineering-Indispensable to Humanity”, and Professor Peter Fajfar, developer of the N2 method, a simplified method for nonlinear seismic analysis of structures, who talked about “Trends of Seismic Analysis in Europe.”
Overall, it can be said that the conference was a success, and we can only expect greater things to come from the next one.
