New hospital to be constructed in Nayarit, Mexico
Grupo Ortiz, a Spanish multi-sector company, has enlisted Dynamis to conduct the seismic analysis and optimization of the new general hospital they are constructing in the capital of Tepic in Nayarit, Mexico. The new hospital of Tepic will be built on 3.5 hectares of land donated by the government. It will consist of 200 hospital beds, 35 consulting rooms, 7 operating rooms and a host of other rooms designed to accommodate specialized care.
For seismic design purposes, Mexico is essentially divided into four seismic regions according to Federal Seismic Standard. The state of Nayarit, located along the western coast of Mexico, north of the state of Jalisco, is located in seismic zone C. It is an area where, despite the fact that earthquakes are infrequent, the level of ground acceleration can be potentially high.
Dynamis Mission
In order to determine the seismic inputs of the project, Dynamis conducted a deterministic seismic hazard analysis in which all the seismic sources acting on the site were identified and the maximum credible events were determined. The effect of every seismic source on the site was estimated by the application of appropriate attenuation laws. The study was completed with a sensitivity analysis in which uncertainties were propagated using a Monte Carlo simulation.
In adition to that, we considered site effects using accelerograms compatible with the uniform hazard spectrum in a Site Response Analysis and the seismic surface design spectrum was finally obtained. Dynamis also carried out structural simulations considering soil-structure interaction effects, which allowed optimizing both the elements of the superstructure and the deep foundation system.
This seismic hazard analysis allowed us to consider an appropriate seismic level for the site, lower than the one specified by the Seismic Standard for the general case.
